Welcome to my blog book review!
The overnight fame of Steffi McBride
by AJ Crofts
Rarely do I devour a book in one sitting, but The Overnight Fame of Steffi McBride, hooked me from the very beginning.
No-nonsense Steffi comes from a boisterous family, lives in an unremarkable estate and would regard her life as distinctly average. Then, one evening at an acting class, she is spotted, and her life changes overnight. Suddenly, Steffi is caught up in a whirlwind of parties, photo shoots and adoring fans. As the country’s darling, she wins a singing contest, receives a BAFTA nomination and bags her dream boyfriend – things couldn’t be better.
However, as her fame grows, the cracks begin to show and her past begins to catch up with her. As the tide turns against her, Steffi has a choice: to ride out the wave or plunge into despair.
Narrated by the straight-talking and highly likeable main character, Steffi, this is a humorous, poignant and truly engaging novel that really captures the effects of celebrity. If you ever wonder what’s going on in the mind of Amy Winehouse or Britney Spears, then this is the book to buy.
